Why Plan Your Own Funeral Services? 3 Things To Consider

Blog

The idea of planning your own funeral may be a difficult one to grapple with. You may feel ill-prepared to plan the services, or you might dislike thinking about your own passing. However, there are a number of compelling reasons to consider setting plans in place for your funeral. Here are some of them.

Handling Funeral Costs

Funeral costs can be high, which can shock a grieving family who has not prepared for them. By planning your own funeral, you can control costs by choosing what you want and paying for it over time. Then, when the time comes, your grieving loved ones will not have to worry about raising high amounts of money in addition to dealing with their loss.

If your family is left with these decisions, their grief may influence their buying decisions and they may end up spending much more than you will. You can end up saving your loved ones a great deal of money by making decisions about your funeral services in advance.

Having the Service You Want

You are the person best suited to decide what should happen during your funeral service. You know what music you want played, you know who you would like to speak, and you know what kind of proceedings you prefer. Setting all of those things down on paper can help eliminate confusion and quarreling after you are gone. People will know what you want, and will be able to follow through with your wishes.

Make sure that your children and friends know where you keep your plans, so that they are easy to find when the time comes.

Helping Loved Ones in Grief

Losing you will be a tremendous loss for your loved ones. It can be extremely difficult to make decisions about funeral services when grieving, so if you handle the arrangements before you pass on, that can be a great act of love from you to your loved ones.  They will be able to focus on each other and help each other, instead of having to make tough choices about how to handle your funeral.

Now that you understand why making plans for your final arrangements can be a wise idea, talk to local funeral homes like Rose's Funeral Home Inc to find out which can best offer you the kind of services you want. That way, you can be confident that your plans are settled and in good hands.

Outstanding In-Home Care

When my mother fell at home and broke her hip, we all thought that we were going to have no choice to put her in a nursing home when she got out of the hospital. My mother had always asked us kids to avoid putting her in any kind of home, but we didn’t know what else we could do. None of us were capable of giving her the kind of rehabilitation and care that she needed. Then her doctor suggested that we find out if her insurance covered in-home care. I didn’t even know that that was an option. I was pleased to discover that in-home care was covered by her plan. Now she gets great care from nurses and nurse assistants that come right to her in her home, where she wants to be. It’s a great option, and I’m so glad we have it.
