When you begin experiencing migraines, the key to helping to prevent them is knowing what triggers them for you. You can get a good idea of your triggers by keeping detailed notes that outline your diet, sleep schedule, and activities that you participate in. This will allow you to review what you had consumed and what was going on in your day when your migraine started. Over time, you will begin to notice a pattern and discover your migraine triggers.
Avoid Sensory Overload
Bright or flashing lights, loud noises, and strong smells are common migraine triggers, so if you are prone to migraine headaches you should try your best to avoid these situations. IF you spend many hours a day working on a computer, make sure that you take frequent breaks so your eyes can get a rest from staring at the bright screen.
Think About What You're Eating and Drinking
Alcohol and caffeine is known for causing regular headaches, and they can also be big triggers for someone who suffers from migraines. If you enjoy drinking alcohol or caffeinated drinks you don't have to give them up entirely, but try to consume them in moderation if you want to avoid the onset of a migraine headache. Other foods that are thought to trigger headaches and migraines include chocolate, processed meats, and cheese.
Reconsider Your Birth Control Options
Many women complain of being more prone to migraines during their menstrual period; this is likely caused by fluctuating hormones. If you notice that you frequently suffer from migraines during your period, speak to your doctor about birth control options. Some hormonal birth control pills do a good job regulating hormones, which can help reduce the occurrence of migraines during menstruation.
Don't Skip Meals or Forget to Hydrate
Dehydration causes a number of problems in the body, including headaches and migraines. Make sure that you are drinking enough water throughout the day so you can prevent both dehydration and migraines. In addition, try to eat on a regular schedule, and never skip meals. Hunger can cause both mental and physiological changes, and it can be a big trigger for a person prone to migraines.Share

When my mother fell at home and broke her hip, we all thought that we were going to have no choice to put her in a nursing home when she got out of the hospital. My mother had always asked us kids to avoid putting her in any kind of home, but we didn’t know what else we could do. None of us were capable of giving her the kind of rehabilitation and care that she needed. Then her doctor suggested that we find out if her insurance covered in-home care. I didn’t even know that that was an option. I was pleased to discover that in-home care was covered by her plan. Now she gets great care from nurses and nurse assistants that come right to her in her home, where she wants to be. It’s a great option, and I’m so glad we have it.
