Worried About Your Hearing? 3 Things You Need To Know About Hearing Tests

Health & Medical Blog

If you are worried about your hearing, you need to schedule a hearing test. A hearing test will let you know if you have any issues with your hearing and will establish a baseline for your hearing that future tests can be compared against to see how your hearing has changed over time.

#1 Annual Hearing Tests Are Best

If you work in an occupation that generates a lot of noise, such as in the music, construction or industrial industry, you should get your hearing checked at least once a year. That way, you can track your hearing and make sure that your hearing is not decreasing due to your occupation. This will also help you come up with strategies to protect your hearing.

Once you reach retirement age, you should also start to get your hearing tested on an annual basis. Many elderly individuals experience hearing loss that they are not aware of, and getting annual hearing tests are the best way to ensure that you are not losing your hearing and figure out preventative actions you can take if you are.

#2 Getting Ready for Your Hearing Test

Before you go in for your hearing test, make sure that you avoid loud noises the day before. Avoiding loud noises, the day before will help ensure that your ears are not damaged or sensitive when you go in for your hearing test and will provide you with the most accurate results.

You should also write down your family history surrounding hearing before you go in for the test. For example, if your family has a history of hearing loss or ear infections, be sure to let your doctor know. As with any medical appointment, you should also make a list of all medications and supplements that you are taking. Medications and supplements can impact your hearing.

#3 You Get the Results Right Away

Finally, when you go in for a hearing test, you don't have to wait weeks to get the results. With a hearing test, the results are recorded as you take the tests. As soon as your test is over, your audiologist will be able to let you know if you have any hearing loss. They will be able to discuss with you strategies to take care of your hearing. Your audiologist will also be able to let you know if any additional medical intervention is needed as well.

Getting a hearing test is a really simple and quick process. You will get your results right away and will be able to make smart choices about your hearing. Contact a medical office like Children  &  Family Hearing Associates for more information and assistance.

Outstanding In-Home Care

When my mother fell at home and broke her hip, we all thought that we were going to have no choice to put her in a nursing home when she got out of the hospital. My mother had always asked us kids to avoid putting her in any kind of home, but we didn’t know what else we could do. None of us were capable of giving her the kind of rehabilitation and care that she needed. Then her doctor suggested that we find out if her insurance covered in-home care. I didn’t even know that that was an option. I was pleased to discover that in-home care was covered by her plan. Now she gets great care from nurses and nurse assistants that come right to her in her home, where she wants to be. It’s a great option, and I’m so glad we have it.
